MyPocono/Pocono Business News (“we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our mobile app, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using MyPocono/Pocono Business News,  you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address (or phone number if you use phone sign-in), a password (which we store as a one-way hash), your chosen display name, an optional avatar photo, an optional bio, and an optional city. If you sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook, we receive your basic profile info (name, email, avatar) from that provider.

Content you create. Community posts, comments, business reviews, business submissions, and reports you file. This content is visible according to the “Who can see your content” section below.

Location. When you grant permission, we use your device location to show nearby places, local weather, and to place a pin on the map when you submit a business. We do not track your location in the background.

Device and usage. When you use the app, we log technical information like device type, operating system version, and app version. If you enable push notifications, we store an Expo push token so we can deliver notifications to your device.

Payments. Subscriptions (Premium, Business Account) and one-time purchases (Nomination credits) are processed through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, with RevenueCat handling receipt validation. Featured business placements are processed through Stripe. We never see or store your card or bank details. We store the amount, plan, and dates so we can display your purchase history.

Advertising. Google AdMob shows ads inside the app to non-paying users. AdMob may access your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, AAID on Android) to serve relevant ads and measure their performance. You control whether apps can request tracking in your device Settings; on iOS, you also see an App Tracking Transparency prompt the first time. Premium and Business Account members never see ads and are not tracked by AdMob.

Analytics. We use PostHog to understand how features are used in aggregate. We do not link analytics events to your account or identity.

How we use your information

To operate the app: authenticate your account, personalize what you see, deliver notifications, process business submissions and claims, respond to reports, and support you when you contact us.

To improve the app: understand which features are used, spot bugs, and prioritize new work. We aggregate this data so it does not identify individuals.

To comply with the law: respond to lawful requests, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms.

Who can see your content

Published community posts, comments, reactions, business reviews, and your public profile (display name, avatar, bio, city, member-since, post and review counts) are visible to anyone using MyPocono.

Business submissions and ownership claims are visible to you and to MyPocono moderators until they are approved. Reports you file are visible to you and to moderators only.

Direct messages you send to a business go to that business owner and to MyPocono moderators only.

What we never sell

We never sell your personal information, your precise location, your contact info, or your identity to anyone, for any purpose.

Sharing with service providers

We use trusted providers to run parts of the app: Supabase (database, authentication, storage), Expo (push notifications), Stripe (featured placement payments), RevenueCat (in-app subscription and purchase validation), Google AdMob (advertising), PostHog (aggregate analytics), and Apple / Google / Facebook (sign-in). Each provider only receives what they need to perform their service. AdMob and PostHog are governed by their own privacy policies, linked from their respective websites.

Data retention

Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. Posts and reviews you delete are marked removed immediately and permanently purged within 30 days. Backups are rotated every 30 days. Server access logs are retained for 90 days.
